NEW COUNCIL HANDOVER CEREMONY

​A handover of duties between outgoing and new incoming councils of the Brunei Students’ Union (BSU) in the United Kingdom and Eire was recently held at Bilik Simpur, Brunei Hall, Norfolk, London.
 
Present to witness the event were the Acting High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, Pengiran Hajah Rooslina Weti binti Pengiran Haji Kamaludin. Also, in attendance was Cikgu Irmawati binti Haji Ahmad, the Director of Studies of Brunei Students’ Unit, officers from the High Commission, officers from the Brunei Students’ Unit and Bruneian students.
​The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, Do’a and a verse from Al-Quran Surah An-Nissa – led by Muhammad Zulfan Farhi bin Haji Sulaini, the outgoing Religious Affairs Secretary (Male) of the BSU Council Session 2018/2019 and the translation read by Muhammad Aqil bin Awang, ingoing Religious Affairs Secretary (Male) of BSU Council Session 2017/2018.
 
In a speech, Awang Muhammad Hasif bin Awang Nordin, the outgoing President of Brunei Students’ Union 2017/2018 congratulated the ingoing council on their election. He also highlighted that the flagship events that is organised by the union is an engine of transformation to produce a bright generation, produce societies that can commit to make changes on how they think and make decision. This is the new mission for the Brunei Students’ Union.
 
Cikgu Irmawati binti Haji Ahmad also stressed on the meaning of leadership in the union and to sacrifice ones’ self by taking opportunities and experiences outside academia, which should be treated as a learning curve.
 
Pengiran Hajah Rooslina Weti binti Pengiran Haji Kamaludin in her speech congratulated the outgoing council for their sustained efforts and service for the Union and the incoming council on their election. She also highlighted the importance of sincerity in conducting work and reminded the ingoing council on their role as agents to unite Bruneian students with the Brunei Students’ Unit.
 
The newly appointed President of the BSU is Awangku Mohammad Hisyam Al-Yura bin Pengiran Haji Zainal Abidin. In his speech, he mentioned that Brunei Students’ Union and the Brunei Students’ Unit is important because they really stressed about the wellbeing, welfare and safety of all Bruneian students in the United Kingdom and Eire. Therefore, as a new president of the union, he will strive hard to lead the council together towards success to produce students that is well educated with integrity and take initiative in achieving the Brunei’s Vision 2035.
 
Upon taking role as the new president, he aims to tackle the mental health issue and also established an entrepreneurship programs and activities to sustain a stronger union.
 
Amongst the newly appointed members of the council include Shaimaa’an Nabielah Abdul Rahman as Vice President for Administration and Finance, Syaffina Shahif as Vice President for Regional Coordination, Nurin Najla@Motia’ah binti Hismawadi as General Secretary, Wan Mohd Haziq bin Haji Yussof as Deputy General Secretary, Mohammad Ajrul bin Haji Mail as Information Secretary, Siti Khairina binti Abdul Wahab as Financial Secretary, Muhammad Aqil bin Awang as Religious Affairs Secretary (Male), Dayang Siti Maisarah Zaliqah binti Haji Awang Ramli as Religious Affairs Secretary (Female) and Yusma Hazim Yusof as a Postgraduate Social and Welfare Secretary.
